Frequently asked questions
01 What types of allergy tests are available?
We offer both skin prick testing and blood testing (RAST/IgE) to help identify the specific allergens triggering your symptoms. Your doctor will determine which method is most appropriate during your initial consultation.
02 Is allergy testing covered by Medicare?
You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate on some allergy tests and treatments, depending on your symptoms and whether you have a referral. Our team will guide you through your options.
03 What happens during an allergy test?
Your doctor applies a small amount of allergen to your skin and gently pricks the area. If you’re allergic, a small red bump may appear. For blood tests, we’ll take a sample and send it to pathology to analyse your immune response to various allergens.
04 What is immunotherapy and how does it work?
Immunotherapy is a long-term treatment that gradually desensitises your immune system to specific allergens. It can reduce or even eliminate allergic symptoms over time. It is especially effective for hay fever, dust mites, and some pet allergies.
05 Can I have allergy testing if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
We don’t generally recommend skin testing during pregnancy. Your doctor may still recommend blood testing. Please inform your doctor if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding so we can tailor your care accordingly.
